In order to enable potential customers/users to test the quality of the LOIS-WN, the thesaurus can be accessed as a standard web service. In this way ICT departements and added value resellers can integrate the semantic richness of LOIS-WN without installing any third party software.

The LOIS Web Service (LOIS-WS) act as a standard web service. In its most basic incarnation, it takes as input a word in a certain language and, according to the type of request returns:

  1. the translation of the query in the desired languages;
  2. the set of semantic relations of the word in the source language;
  3. a combination of the two.

Terms of the service

The service is offered for free until december 2006. However we impose some limit in terms of the daily number of requests coming from the same IP address. Currently such a limit is set to 100 requests per day

In order to use LOIS-WS, the client application must obtain a legal id and password. In order to obtain that, a mail should be sent to the address lois-ws@loiseeig.com specifying the reason of the request, the envisaged application, the nature of the use (evaluation vs. commercial). The answer will contain id and password, together with a document specifying the technical details of the web service.
